After treating visitors
to unforgettable listening experiences for nearly 50 years, we’re
pleased to extend the tradition with Classic Album Night, a free
monthly event dedicated to proving that two-channel audio is more
exciting than ever.
You’re
invited to these electrifying listening sessions, which optimize
all the elements in the music reproduction chain: the recordings
are classics, the equipment is reference-class, and the room acoustics
are superior to those in most recording studios.
Better yet, there’s no charge, though limited space means
you must call ahead for a reservation.
During Classic Album Night, usually but not always scheduled for
the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm, we’ll feature
albums – LP’s wherever possible – that most
audiophiles have heard before but never dreamed could sound as
spectacular as they do on the reference systems in Lyric’s
own acoustically-tailored space.
These are the components you’ve seen pictured on magazine
covers, the ones that have had the most knowledgeable audio writers
for top publications cheering, and we’ve carefully matched
them in systems valued in the mid six figures.
Naturally, these setups change from time to time to accommodate
the most exciting new gear, but they always include top-of-the-line
models from the world’s most prestigious manufacturers.
Though few people will ever own such systems, you can have the
thrill of hearing them in an acoustically tuned space for nothing
more than the cost of transportation to Manhattan’s Lexington
Avenue near 83rd Street.
You’ll
hear speakers such as THE KING V2, the spectacular flagship of
the Hansen Audio line, and the majestic four-column Nola Grand
Reference system pictured in place on this page. Electronics from
the like of ASR, Audio Research, Halcro, Mark Levinson and McIntosh
are fed by a VPI turntable, and to be certain these brilliantly
conceived components are as well connected as they possibly can
be, we’ve linked them with Nordost’s finest cables.
The setting, Soundroom A at Lyric in Manhattan, adds its own magic.
After he consulted with an acoustics expert at the University
of Oslo, in Sweden, Lyric founder Michael Kay and his architect
designed it in collaboration with veteran audiophiles Dick Sequerra
(whose genius is reflected in products that go all the way back
to the Marantz 10B tuner), Mitchell Cotter and Mark Levinson.
This singular space, custom-built from the ground up, employs
a variety of complex acoustical elements. The insulating floor
employs a layer of impact-resistant fiberglass under a floating
concrete slab, and to prevent standing waves, there are no parallel
surfaces.
The room has two reflecting walls built of used, irregularly shaped
bricks and two absorptive facing walls that act as sound traps.
An undulating ceiling, a door with a sealed air space between
its two layers, and a ventilation system created for silent operation
also help make the surroundings vanish and the music become even
more vivid.
Countless audiophiles have been enthralled by recorded musical
performances in Lyric’s Soundroom A. Whether or not you’re
one of them, we know you’ll want to hear the all-time great
albums we’ll be playing there over the coming months on
components – some exclusively Lyric’s in this market
area – that have set new standards.
So check the session schedule below, pick the most convenient
date or dates, and call Bob Herman or Mike Deutsch at 212-439-1900
for a reservation. Again, while there’s no admission charge,
Soundroom A has limited seating space, and you must have one.
While our supply lasts, each attendee will receive a fabulous
Chesky CD, a bonus gift from Lyric to our friends who truly love
music.
WE
WANT TO ACCOMMODATE YOU!
As you may have
heard, Classic Album Night has attracted more listeners than we
initially expected. Don't let that deter you from calling, though,
since we're not completely booked.
Happily, we've
managed to fit a few additional chairs into Soundroom A and can
now accommodate a slightly larger audience than we initially planned
for. Moreover, we're reserving all seats for non-industry people
rather than those associated with manufacturers,
and we intend to host representatives of the press at separate
sessions.
We're now also
accepting tentative reservations from alternate attendees. Shortly
before each listening session, we'll phone those who have firm
reservations in order to determine whether or not they're still
able to attend. We'll then contact people on our list of alternates
and invite them to take the places of any who have had to cancel.
We may also
add listening sessions. If we do, we'll call
to invite people on our alternates lists before publicizing them.
So please check
the schedule just below and give us a call.
